Automatic pool cleaner repair in Los Angeles covers the three kinds of cleaners most owners have: suction cleaners that ride on the skimmer line, pressure-side cleaners pushed by a return line or booster pump, and robotic cleaners with their own motor and power supply. Each fails in its own way, and each depends on the rest of the system working right.

A cleaner that sits in one corner or stops climbing walls is often worn out, but it can just as easily be starved of flow. We check both before recommending parts, and we repair or replace the booster pump and above-ground plumbing that drive a pressure cleaner. It is one part of the pool equipment repair we handle at Pool Cleaning Los Angeles, where our owner does the work.

What's Included in Pool Cleaner Repair

  • Suction cleaners. Diaphragms, feet and skirts, hoses, swivels and flow regulators inspected and replaced.
  • Pressure-side cleaners. Tires, belts, bearings, thrust jets, backup valves, sweep hoses and debris bags.
  • Robotic cleaners. Brushes, tracks, filters, cable and swivel checked, with drive motor and power supply faults diagnosed.
  • Booster pumps. Seals, motors and leaks repaired, or the pump replaced, much like our pool pump repair.
  • Flow checks. Filter pressure, pump baskets, valve settings and hose length set so the cleaner covers the whole pool.

Signs Your Pool Cleaner Needs Repair

  • It gets stuck or circles. Worn tires or tracks, a kinked hose or a bad swivel keep it from turning properly.
  • It won't climb walls. Weak suction or pressure, or worn brushes that can't grip the plaster.
  • It moves slowly or stops. On a suction cleaner that often means a torn diaphragm or clogged basket; on a pressure cleaner, a failing booster pump.
  • It leaves debris behind. A torn bag, a full canister or a worn throat lets dirt pass right through.
  • A robotic cleaner won't power on. The power supply, cable or sealed motor unit may have failed.
  • The booster pump leaks or screams. A worn seal or failing motor bearing needs attention before it takes out the motor.

Our Pool Cleaner Repair Process

  1. Watch it runWe see how the cleaner moves, where it stalls and what it misses before taking anything apart.
  2. Check the systemFilter pressure, pump and booster operation, baskets and valve positions come first.
  3. Inspect the cleanerWear parts are checked against the manufacturer's limits, and hoses are checked for cracks and leaks.
  4. Repair and tuneWorn parts are replaced, flow is adjusted and hose length is set to the pool's shape.
  5. Test and reportWe run a full cycle and text you a photo and a note on what was replaced.

Filter pressure matters more than most owners realize. Hayward says to clean a cartridge filter when pressure rises 7 to 10 psi above its clean starting point (Source: Hayward), and the EPA notes that a backwash is usually needed once pressure climbs about 10 psi (Source: U.S. EPA WaterSense). A clogged filter starves a suction cleaner fast, which is why pool filter cleaning is often part of the fix.

Pool Cleaner Options Compared

OptionBest forTrade-offs
Suction-side cleanerPools with steady pump flow and fine debrisSends debris to the pump basket and filter; performance rises and falls with flow
Pressure-side cleanerLeaves and larger debris caught in its own bagMost models need a booster pump, which adds energy use and upkeep
Robotic cleanerWall scrubbing and fine debris, independent of the pool pumpMust be lifted out and cleaned; sealed motor failures often mean replacement

Booster pumps deserve a second look. The Department of Energy notes they must deliver high pressure at low flow to push a cleaner across the pool floor, and new booster pumps have had to meet a federal efficiency standard since July 19, 2021 (Source: U.S. Department of Energy, 82 FR 5650). ENERGY STAR says a pool pump can be a home's second-largest energy user (Source: ENERGY STAR), so a booster running longer than needed shows up on the bill.

What Affects the Cost of Pool Cleaner Repair

  • Cleaner type and model. Parts differ between suction, pressure and robotic designs.
  • Which parts are worn. A tire set or diaphragm is a smaller job than a drive motor.
  • Booster pump condition. A seal is simpler than a motor or full pump replacement.
  • System issues. A dirty filter, weak pump or leaking plumbing may need fixing for the cleaner to work.

Pool Cleaner Repair in Los Angeles: Local Factors

LA debris is hard on cleaners. Southern California averages about 32 Santa Ana wind events a year, mostly between October and April (Source: Scripps Institution of Oceanography via NOAA), and each one can drop leaves, seed pods and palm fronds into the pool at once. After a wildfire, the Pool & Hot Tub Alliance warns that ash can leave a cement-like coating on filter media (Source: PHTA), which chokes the flow a cleaner relies on.

Why choose us

Why LA Homeowners Choose Us for Pool Cleaner Repair

28 days off new plaster

Careful With Fresh Finishes

The Pool & Hot Tub Alliance says wheeled pool cleaners should not be used until after 28 days on a new plaster pool (Source: PHTA). If your pool was just plastered, we keep the cleaner out and brush by hand through our new pool startup service instead. Once the finish has cured, we set the cleaner back up and confirm it covers the floor without marking it.

1 owner, every repair

Someone Who Knows Your Whole System

A cleaner problem is often a pump, filter or plumbing problem in disguise. Having worked every role in pool service, we look at the whole system, not just the cleaner, and fix the real cause. That saves you from buying new tires for a cleaner whose real trouble is a clogged filter or a tired booster pump, and it means one person is accountable for the result.

FAQ

Pool Cleaner Repair FAQ

Why does my pool cleaner get stuck in one spot?

The usual causes are worn tires or tracks, a hose that is too long or kinked, a stuck swivel, or low flow from a dirty filter. We check flow first, then the cleaner itself.

Is it worth repairing an old pool cleaner?

Often, yes. Tires, diaphragms, hoses and bags are wear parts designed to be replaced. If the body is cracked or a robotic drive unit has failed out of warranty, replacement usually makes more sense, and we will tell you which way we would go.

Can I run my cleaner in a newly plastered pool?

Not a wheeled cleaner during the start-up period. Fresh plaster is soft, and wheels can mark it. Brush by hand until the plaster has cured, then put the cleaner back in.

Do I need a booster pump for a pressure cleaner?

Most pressure-side cleaners need one because they rely on high pressure at low flow. A few models run off the main pump's return line. We can repair or replace your booster pump and the plumbing that feeds it.

Do you repair robotic cleaners?

We diagnose them, replace brushes, tracks, filters and cables, and check the power supply. When a sealed motor unit fails, we explain your warranty and replacement options.
