Signs Your Pool Light Needs Repair
- The light is dead. A burned bulb is the easy answer, but a tripped GFCI or failed cord looks the same.
- It flickers or comes on by itself. Stay out of the water and call.
- The GFCI keeps tripping. Water or a damaged cord has usually created a ground fault. Do not keep resetting it.
- Fog or water inside the lens. A failed gasket lets water in, which shorts the bulb and corrodes the socket.
- Color lights out of sync. Mismatched color LEDs may need a reset, a controller fix or a new fixture.
Please do not open a pool light yourself. The CPSC lists underwater lights that flicker or stay on when they should be off among the signs that swimmers may be getting an electrical shock, and says it is aware of 33 electrocution deaths in swimming pools and spas since 2002 (Source: U.S. CPSC).

Hard water leaves its mark on lights here.
